The Construction of the Nowa Czechnica Combined Heat and Power Plant in Siechnice has already started

On 15th of October this year, in the presence of state and local authorities, a ceremonial laying of the cornerstone for the Nowa Czechnica CHP plant took place. The investment in Siechnice near Wrocław is one of many currently being carried out in the PGE Group whose aim is to decarbonize the heating area.

The new unit powered by low-emission gas will replace a 120-year-old coal-fired combined heat and power plant. The Siechnice investment is in line with PGE Group's strategy, according to which by 2030 it is planned to use 70% of zero- and low-emission sources in heat production process.

"As the leader of the energy transformation in Poland, we feel obliged to take up the challenges currently facing the heating industry so that it can continue to function and ensure energy security," - emphasizes Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. “ Combined energy production, based on gas fuel, as it will take place in the CHP plant being built in Siechnice, is an effective tool in the fight against low emissions”– he adds.

“The construction of a new CHP plant in Siechnice is one of the key investments of PGE Energia Ciepła” - says Przemysław Kołodziejak, President of the Management Board of PGE Energia Ciepła. "Thanks to the use of the best available technology, the efficiency and efficiency of production will increase significantly, and thanks to the use of low-emission gas fuel, the inhabitants of the Wrocław agglomeration will benefit from it.

Andrzej Jedut, President of the Management Board of KOGENERACJA adds:  “The new plant in Siechnice will be an important source of energy supply for the inhabitants of the Siechnice and the southern part of Wrocław. The launch of the New EC Czechnica project, with a larger production capacity compared to the existing facility, means that we will be able to produce more heat, which will be able to benefit a larger number of customers. In addition, we will secure the possibility of supplying electricity for the next several decades – emphasizes President Jedut.

The main executor of the investment is a consortium of companies selected in April this year, consisting of: Polimex Mostostal - Consortium Leader and Polimex Energetyka - Consortium Partner.

We will make every effort to ensure that the construction of the New EC Czechnica is our joint success and that we can meet here in 2024, on the commissioning of this investment, in an equally distinguished group – said Krzysztof Figat, President of the Management Board of Polimex Mostostal.

The project schedule assumes the launch of the gas-steam unit in the first half of 2024. Until then, the production of electricity and heat will be ensured by the currently operated installations and the peak part of the new CHP plant in Siechnice, the launch of which is planned for the first half of 2023.
