Polimex Mostostal will build a low-emission cogeneration source at the Bydgoszcz II CHP Plant for PGE Energia Ciepła
PGE Energia Ciepła and the Polimex Energetyka, Polimex Mostostal consortium signed a contract on 25 October for the construction of new power generating units - including a cogeneration source at the Bydgoszcz II CHP plant. This investment is one of many currently underway in the PGE Group as part of the decarbonisation of the district heating sector.
As part of the signed contract, the consortium of Polimex Energetyka and Polimex Mostostal will design and build a gas-fuelled cogeneration source with a capacity of min. 50 MWe, composed of gas engines, as well as build a standby and peak source. The investment will be built at one of the two locations owned by the Bydgoszcz Branch of PGE Energia Ciepła - at the Bydgoszcz II Combined Heat and Power Plant. In addition, the subject matter of the contract is the execution of services and supplies, on a turnkey basis, aimed at the installation of equipment, i.e., gas-fired cogeneration units, a gas-fired water boiler, an electrode water boiler and a gas-fired steam generator, enabling safe operation and ensuring that guaranteed parameters are achieved. Once the investment is completed, PGE Energia Ciepła Bydgoszcz Branch will be able to further reduce the use of coal as a fuel.
- The construction of a gas unit in Bydgoszcz is a very crucial investment for the city. Its creation will ensure the production of heat in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner, which also has an impact on the health of the city's residents. As the leader of Poland's energy transition, we feel obliged to address the challenges currently facing the heating sector so that it can continue to function efficiently and ensure energy security," emphasises Przemysław Kołodziejak, President of the Management Board of PGE Energia Ciepła.
The new generating unit will replace two coal-fired boilers scheduled for decommissioning.
- The construction of a new generation unit at the Bydgoszcz II Combined Heat and Power Plant is one of two key investments being carried out in our city by the Bydgoszcz Branch of PGE Energia Ciepła. The first is already under construction at the Bydgoszcz I CHP Plant in Bydgoszcz's Jachcice district, the second at Energetyczna Street is just starting. Thanks to the investments under construction, our CHP plant will guarantee the production of heat in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner and will also significantly increase the security of supply to our heat consumers, said Sebastian Wasilewski, director of PGE Energia Ciepła Branch CPH Plant in Bydgoszcz.
The main contractor for the construction is the consortium of Polimex Energetyka Sp. z o.o. and Polimex Mostostal S.A. The project will be completed in the first quarter of 2025.
- The contract we signed for the turnkey construction of a gas-fuelled cogeneration source and a district heating source at PGE Energia Ciepła Branch CPH Plant in Bydgoszcz is another energy contract we are executing for PGE Energia Ciepła. At the same time, it is proof that the resources, knowledge and experience of the Polimex Mostostal Group are recognised by customers. At this point, I would like to say thank you for the trust placed in us by the PGE Group and for selecting the offer of our consortium of Polish companies Polimex Energetyka sp. z o.o. and Polimex Mostostal S.A. for another ambitious energy contract. We will make every effort to ensure that the construction of a new CHP plant for Bydgoszcz is our joint success, and that the people of Bydgoszcz can enjoy clean air, thermal comfort and electricity from the new PGE Energia Ciepła investment. - Krzysztof Figat, Chairman of the Management Board of Polimex Mostostal, said in conclusion.
