Polimex-Mostostal handed over to operation Jarosław West (Wierzbna) node within the built section of the A4 motorway

As part of the Rzeszów - Jarosław section of the built A4 motorway, Polimex-Mostostal, on 20 December 2013, handed over to operation the Jarosław West (Wierzbna) node. This node joins the existing national road no. 4 with the built section of the A4 motorway in the direction of Jarosław.

The total length of the Wierzbna node, including the section of the motorway and the rebuilt section of the National Road No. 4 is approximately 7 km. The node and the national road no. 4 include four bridge structures. In order to increase the level of safety of traffic on the node is distributed through nine ramps.

On the north side of the A4 motorway, there is a Toll Station (SOP) for 6 positions. Between the motorway, the ramps of the node and the national road no. 4, the Motorway Maintenance Center is located (OUA).

During the construction of the node the following amounts were used, around:

·         55 thousand tons of bituminous surfaces,

·         44 thousand tons of aggregate base,

·         13 thousand m3 concrete for 4 bridge structures,

·         3.9 thousand tons of steel.

Construction works have been performed in 2 shifts.

Currently, at the remaining sections of the construction mainly earthworks are realized. Stabilizing the substrate of the motorway is progressing. Works on this section of the motorway are hampered due to the different soil conditions in the substrate. They induce performing additional work, such as consolidation of the substrate using the embankments’ overloading method and strengthening the substrates at bridge structures.

The progress of work on bridge structures is 99%. At 35 of the 78 above-mentioned structures, finishing works have been completed.

General advancement of the works on this section of the motorway is approximately 70%. Polimex-Mostostal has provided subcontractors and performs work correctly.

The deadline for obtaining trafficability of this section of the A4 motorway is expected at the end of this year.
