Polimex-Mostostal, a contractor at the European Solidarity Centre

President Bronislaw Komorowski opened the European Solidarity Centre on the 34th anniversary of signing of the August Agreements, the center was built by Polimex-Mostostal.

On 31 August, 1980, in a hall in the historic Gdansk Shipyard, the August Agreements were signed. They ended a two-month wave of strikes in Poland and also started the process of the collapse of communism in our country.

The European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk was built in passive house standard, i.e. of low energy demand, thanks to modern solutions, equipment and facilities. The building is supplied with heat from a heat pump unit, the lower source of which is located under the floor slab at a depth of 100-110 m, it covers the whole building energy demand.

The external façade and interior exhibition walls are made of Corten steel sheet, its rusty color refers to elements of hulls.

The heart of the ESC is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the phenomenon of Solidarity and the changes that have taken place under its influence across Central and Eastern Europe. There is space planned for a temporary exhibition hall, an archive, a library and a reading room, a media library, a research center, an educational and training center and workshops for young people, space for non-governmental organizations, as well as the observation deck. There will be a bookstore, a gift shop and a cafe in a comfort year-round garden with exotic plants.
