On 25 September 2018, in Nowy Czarnów, Polimex-Mostostal SA and Polimex-Energetyka SP. z o. o., acting in a consortium with SBB ENERGY SA concluded an agreement with PGE Górnictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna SA, part of PGE Capital Group, for the “Delivery and erection of an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) installation for the OP-650 type boilers, for the units Nos 5, 6, 7 and 8 in the Elektrownia Dolna Odra power plant”, in PGE GiEK SA (Oddział Zespół Elektrowni Dolna Odra).

The investment involving units 5, 6, 7 and 8, will allow to adjust the Elektrownia Dolna Odra power plant to the stricter environmental requirements under the BAT/BREF conclusions which will come into effect in 2021. In practice, this will result in a significant improvement in air quality in Szczecin.

The SCR Installation will be based on the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology and will include a bypass flap for the commissioning phase. As part of the works, the exhaust fans will be replaced and rotational air heaters will be upgraded. All works will be carried out during the planned overhaul of the individual units. The first shut-down of the generating units covered by the program should take place in October 2019.

The value of the contract is PLN 200 million net. The remuneration for the execution of this agreement for Polimex-Energetyka SP. z o. o. and Polimex-Mostostal SA will come up to a total of over PLN 40 million net. The amount will be determined after the final confirmation of the scope of works within the framework of the Consortium. The completion date is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.

- We are very pleased that yet another, environment-friendly and important for the Polish economy investment will be carried out by Polimex. The execution of this investment will not only allow to extend the working life of the Elektrownia Dolna Odra power plant in Nowy Czarnów, but above all, will help to reduce, by almost three-fold, the nitrogen oxides emissions into the atmosphere, which will significantly improve the air quality in Szczecin.

We have proven on multiple occasions our competences in carrying out specialized investments in Poland and abroad for the energy sector, petrochemical and gas industries, and in the field of environmental protection. The Dolna Odra [the Lower Oder] Project is the third SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)  installation that we are carrying out,”  said Krzysztof Figat, the President of Polimex-Mostostal SA’s Management Board.

- It is another environment-friendly investment in the Zachodniopomorskie (West Pomerania) branch of the company PGE GiEK, which will improve the air quality in Szczecin. Our environmental awareness is also confirmed by the fact that today we are preparing intensively for the entry into force of more stringent environmental requirements under the so-called BAT conclusions imposed by the European Union, and the investment policy implemented by us takes into account the energy security and the economic interests of our country  - said Sławomir Zawada, CEO of PGE Górnictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna.  - It is also worth to take this opportunity to highlight some other green investments in Szczecin, the implementation of which is currently underway. We are currently building a flue gas desulphurization and denitrification systems in the combined heat and power plant Elektrociepołownia Pomorzany, which also belongs to the PGE GiEK,  All these environment-friendly actions, including today’s agreement, testify to our sense of responsibility for being a leader among the power and heat producers in the region, respecting the environment we live in and the air we breathe.
