Polimex-Mostostal is accelerating on roads

Despite a difficult, in terms of liquidity, period for Polimex-Mostostal, the company mobilizes on road contracts.

The company has the executive potential guaranteeing completion of road orders.

On the A1 motorway, Stryków - Tuszyn section, works are carried out within their full scope.

The works are performed by more than 600 employees. Over 175 heavy construction machines are being used, including excavators, cranes, rollers, bulldozers and dump trucks.

Currently, the works focus on the parallel performance of 30 bridge structures, as well as animal crossings.

Road works, despite the upcoming winter period are carried out from 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.. During the construction of the largest bridge structures, located on the so-called critical path, works are carried out until 10.00 p.m.

Excavation works are being continued, including works on the construction of embankments. During the week, about 50 thousand m3 of earth masses is piled up. Until the end of October, 30% of excavation and 26% of mounds were executed. Parallel, reconstruction of the colliding highway infrastructure equipment of PKP is being performed.

In the service area in Wiśniowa Góra work is underway for the construction of drainage and sewerage. Soon, stabilizing the ground for maneuvering roads will start there. It is planned to have this work completed before the winter.

The deadline for obtaining trafficability of this section of the motorway is expected at the end of 2014.

As part of the built A4 motorway Rzeszów - Jarosław, Polimex-Mostostal, in December, shall enable the use of the Wierzbna node. This node is a combination of the existing DK4 road with the built section of the A4 motorway in the direction of Jarosław. Bituminous works have been completed. Finishing works are in progress. Commissioning procedures shall soon be begun.

The total length of the Wierzbna node, including the section of the highway and rebuilt section of National Road No. 4 (DK No. 4), is approximately 7 km. The node and DK no. 4 include four bridge structures.

During the construction of the node the following amounts were approximately used:

• 55 thousand tons of bituminous pavements,

• 44 thousand tons of aggregate base course,

• 13 thousand m3 of concrete bridge facilities,

• 3.9 thousand tons of steel.

Construction works were performed in 2 shifts.

Currently, at the remaining sections of the site, mainly earthworks are being implemented. Works stabilizing the substrate of the motorway are progressing. The execution of works on this section of highway is impeded by different soil conditions in the substrate. They induce performing additional work, such as consolidation of the substrate using the method of overloading and strengthening the substrates of the embankments at bridge structures.

The progress of works on bridge structures is 99%. In 35 of the 78 above-mentioned, finishing works have been completed.

In view of the information on the settlement of the viaduct in the region of Wólka Mała, we are explaining that settling of the viaduct is not caused by defective workmanship. The works were completed in accordance with the design provided by the customer, i.e. the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. The design requires a change. We expect it to be delivered by the employer. Then, Polimex-Mostostal, shall perform, in accordance with the received design, strengthening of the foundations of the viaduct.

Polimex-Mostostal has provided subcontractors and performs work within the full scope. The progress of works on this section of highway is about 70%.

The deadline for obtaining trafficability of this section of the A4 motorway is expected at the end of 2014.

Construction work on the reconstruction of DK1 in Tychy currently has approximately 150 employees, 45 heavy construction equipment units and dozens of transport vehicles. Works are carried out within their full scope, including earthworks, road, demolition, sewage, bituminous, bridge, construction, network, drainage works and the installation of noise barriers. Full mobilization is to allow Polimex-Mostostal meeting their contract requirements, i.e. termination of the next stage of construction in accordance with the schedule.

Polimex-Mostostal is currently in discussions with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways regarding the agreement on the construction of the S-69 road from the Mikuszowice Node to the Żywiec Node. The range of talks includes, among others, agreeing a new deadline for the completion of the construction.
