Million hours without an accident in Kozienice

At the construction site of the ultramodern Energy Block in Kozienice implemented by Polimex-Mostostal, works on the construction of the boiler entered into their crucial phase. Thanks to the very good organization of the construction and implementation of high standards of health and safety, there has been no accident on the site for one million hours worked.

Polimex-Mostostal currently has two key contracts in the Polish energy sector, being the construction of the power block in the Kozienice Power Plant, with a total value of PLN 6.3 billion, and the construction of two power units in the Opole Power Plant, with a total value of PLN 11.5 billion. In both of these contracts the share of Polimex-Mostostal is approx. 42%. The block in Kozienice will be commissioned in 2017. Its power will be 1075 MW and net efficiency, reaching 45.59%, will be one of the highest in the world. Polimex-Mostostal, in a consortium with MHPSE, is responsible for the construction, installation and equipment of the new unit. There is an ongoing installation of the boiler supporting structure and the first column of the engine building has been mounted.

- Construction of a modern power unit is a very complex undertaking. Work is often carried out next to operating power plants, as is the case in Kozienice. Comprehensive implementation of such large, high-tech projects, requires the contractor’s respective competences, experience and potential – Bogusław Piekarski said, Vice President                                                  of Polimex-Mostostal SA, Chief Operating Officer.

- Polimex-Mostostal copes well with the implementation of such projects. I mean more than the company's ability to provide high quality ongoing work, respecting schedules, but also a modern approach to the requirements of environmental protection and health and safety – the Vice President added.

- We are committed to continuous improvement of safety on construction sites, not only in relation to our own employees, but also employees of our business partners, subcontractors and suppliers. Our ultimate goal is to eliminate accidents at work. We intend to achieve this, among others, through the implementation of best practices in the field of health and safety system – Bogusław Piekarski stressed.
