Construction of the new units at the Opole power plant in a new phase

Erection of the steel structure of boiler No. 5 is ongoing on the construction site of two new power units at the Opole Power Plant. The works on the assembly started on August 17

- Assembly of the first column of the boiler facility is a traditional symbolic transition from the construction phase of works to mechanical assembly, to the substantial part of the construction of power units. The construction of the steel structure of the two boilers - performed by Mostostal Warszawa - will consume approx. 50,000 tons of steel. Both boilers will have a height of about 125 meters. The steel structure of boiler No. 5 will be completed in the spring next year and early in 2016 assembly of the steel structure of boiler No. 6 will be started.

Another symbolic step in the construction of the power plant will be the finishing of the tables of the 900 MW turbines. - In the autumn this year, Polimex-Mostostal begins the assembly of the steel structure of the engine facility and the complicated construction of the tables (foundation) under turbogenerators - Zbigniew Wiegner explains.

So far, the foundation slab of boiler unit No. 5, with pedestals, channels and floor have already been executed. Reinforce and concreting works have been performed on the base plate of boiler unit No. 6. Four communication pylons have been constructed and staircases and ceilings have been installed in them. Reinforcement and concreting works of electrofilters and the electrical building have been executed.

The consortium of Polimex-Mostostal, Alstom, Rafako and Mostostal Warszawa is the conductor of the two power units at the Opole Power Plant. The Employer is the PGE Group. This has been the biggest industrial investment in Poland for 15 years. The contract is worth 11.5 billion PLN gross, of which about 42 percent, 4.83 billion PLN is the share of Polimex-Mostostal. According to the schedule, block No. 5 will be commissioned in July 2018 and block No. 6, in February 2019. The new blocks will generate 12.5 TWh of electricity per year, which will meet the needs of more than 4 million households.

Polimex-Mostostal constructs two cooling towers with a cooling water system under the contract. It will also perform complete turbine islands. It will also implement electrical installations including control and measurement instruments and automation. The scope of Polimex-Mostostal also includes the execution of external networks, track systems and internal roads at the power plant site.
